Cheap copycat Ozempic sounds too good to be true. It is, a scientist found.

Ever since the FDA approved the prescription of GLP-1 weight-loss drugs, it's been hard to get hold of the real thing.Demand is so high for semaglutide, a GLP-1 sold under the brand names Ozempic and Wegovy, that it almost immediately went into shortage after it was approved for weight control in 2021.Plus, at over $1,000 for a month's supply, it's a tough medication to afford even if you can access it.Naturally, that's spawned a wave of cheaper copycat drugs.Researchers have watched nervously as the resulting gray market of so-called generic semaglutide has ballooned. Pharmacies are technically allowed to make their…

What is DevOps?

What is DevOps?

1. What is DevOps? DevOps is a cultural and technical movement that aims to bridge the gap between software development (Dev) and IT operations (Ops). By fostering a culture of collaboration and shared responsibility, DevOps seeks to improve the speed and quality of software delivery. Key Goals of DevOps: Enhanced Collaboration: Breaking down silos between development and operations teams. Faster Delivery: Accelerating the release of new features and fixes. Improved Quality: Enhancing the reliability and performance of software. Automation: Automating repetitive tasks to reduce manual effort and errors. 2. Core Principles of DevOps 2.1 Collaboration and Communication DevOps promotes a…

DIVE: Towards Descriptive and Diverse Visual Commonsense Generation

DIVE: Towards Descriptive and Diverse Visual Commonsense Generation

arXiv:2408.08021v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Towards human-level visual understanding, visual commonsense generation has been introduced to generate commonsense inferences beyond images. However, current research on visual commonsense generation has overlooked an important human cognitive ability: generating descriptive and diverse inferences. In this work, we propose a novel visual commonsense generation framework, called DIVE, which aims to improve the descriptiveness and diversity of generated inferences. DIVE involves two methods, generic inference filtering and contrastive retrieval learning, which address the limitations of existing visual commonsense resources and training objectives. Experimental results verify that DIVE outperforms state-of-the-art models for visual commonsense generation in…

mhGPT: A Lightweight Generative Pre-Trained Transformer for Mental Health Text Analysis

arXiv:2408.08261v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: This paper introduces mhGPT, a lightweight generative pre-trained transformer trained on mental health-related social media and PubMed articles. Fine-tuned for specific mental health tasks, mhGPT was evaluated under limited hardware constraints and compared with state-of-the-art models like MentaLLaMA and Gemma. Despite having only 1.98 billion parameters and using just 5% of the dataset, mhGPT outperformed larger models and matched the performance of models trained on significantly more data. The key contributions include integrating diverse mental health data, creating a custom tokenizer, and optimizing a smaller architecture for low-resource settings. This research could advance AI-driven mental…
