EC2 Snapshot Management: How to get AWS EC2 Snapshot Information with Python

Introduction Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) snapshots are integral to data backup and disaster recovery strategies within AWS. They provide point-in-time copies of your EC2 instance volumes, allowing you to restore data quickly and reliably in the event of failures, data loss, or system corruption. As organizations scale their cloud infrastructure, managing these snapshots becomes increasingly complex and time-consuming. Automation is the key to simplifying this process, ensuring data integrity, and optimizing operational efficiency. In this blog post, we'll walk through a Python script that automates the extraction of snapshot information, including associated instance details. This script exports the gathered…

The Benefits and Risks of Transductive Approaches for AI Fairness

The Benefits and Risks of Transductive Approaches for AI Fairness

arXiv:2406.12011v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Recently, transductive learning methods, which leverage holdout sets during training, have gained popularity for their potential to improve speed, accuracy, and fairness in machine learning models. Despite this, the composition of the holdout set itself, particularly the balance of sensitive sub-groups, has been largely overlooked. Our experiments on CIFAR and CelebA datasets show that compositional changes in the holdout set can substantially influence fairness metrics. Imbalanced holdout sets exacerbate existing disparities, while balanced holdouts can mitigate issues introduced by imbalanced training data. These findings underline the necessity of constructing holdout sets that are both diverse…

The global spike in luxury handbags, shoes, and clothing sales could be coming to an end due in part to China’s ‘luxury shaming,’ study finds

The spike in the global sales of luxury goods could be coming to an end in 2024, and "luxury shaming" could be in part to blame.A report published on June 18 by Bain & Company forecast that worldwide sales of personal luxury goods — which include high-end clothing, shoes, handbags, and beauty products — would grow at the slowest rate since 2020, when sales plummeted due to pandemic-related factors. If Bain's forecast pans out, it could be due in part to a slowdown in China. The report cited two factors in particular that are holding back sales in the Chinese…

PCIE_EgoHandPose Solution for EgoExo4D Hand Pose Challenge

[Submitted on 18 Jun 2024] View a PDF of the paper titled PCIE_EgoHandPose Solution for EgoExo4D Hand Pose Challenge, by Feng Chen and 5 other authors View PDF HTML (experimental) Abstract:This report presents our team's 'PCIE_EgoHandPose' solution for the EgoExo4D Hand Pose Challenge at CVPR2024. The main goal of the challenge is to accurately estimate hand poses, which involve 21 3D joints, using an RGB egocentric video image provided for the task. This task is particularly challenging due to the subtle movements and occlusions. To handle the complexity of the task, we propose the Hand Pose Vision Transformer (HP-ViT). The…

End-to-end Text-to-SQL Generation within an Analytics Insight Engine

End-to-end Text-to-SQL Generation within an Analytics Insight Engine

arXiv:2406.12104v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Recent advancements in Text-to-SQL have pushed database management systems towards greater democratization of data access. Today's language models are at the core of these advancements. They enable impressive Text-to-SQL generation as experienced in the development of Distyl AI's Analytics Insight Engine. Its early deployment with enterprise customers has highlighted three core challenges. First, data analysts expect support with authoring SQL queries of very high complexity. Second, requests are ad-hoc and, as such, require low latency. Finally, generation requires an understanding of domain-specific terminology and practices. The design and implementation of our Text-to-SQL generation pipeline, powered…

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will finally let you play as Zelda herself

Did you think Nintendo would simply only release remakes and second-tier games until the Switch's successor finally comes along? Guess again. Domain Driven Design (DDD) with stakeholders: using content production contracting as an example

In my previous article, I focused on the development part of DDD, but this time I would like to delve into the preliminary part. So, using the business challenges of a fictitious company as an example, we will consider how to understand the business process and how to leverage the knowledge of experts to build a system. Step 0: How the Project Begins Voices of Employees A content production company was experiencing inefficiencies in its contract-related operations. Below are some specific comments from the field: Content Producer's Voice. "Every time I sign a contract, I have to explain it in…

Python Now a First-Class Language on Spark, Databricks Says

(dTosh/Shutterstock) The Apache Spark community has improved support for Python to such a great degree over the past few years that Python is now a “first-class” language, and no longer a “clunky” add-on as it once was, Databricks co-founder and Chief Architect Reynold Xin said at Data + AI Summit last week. “It’s actually a completely different language.” Python is the world’s most popular programming language, but that doesn’t mean that it always plays well with others. In fact, many Python users have been dismayed over the poor integration with Apache Spark over the years, including its tendency to be…
