We are thrilled to announce our next partnered challenge with Wix Studio!

Running through October 27, Wix Studio Challenge: Community Edition invites you to leverage the power of Wix Studio to build your dream community platform. This challenge is an opportunity to showcase your JavaScript skills while leveraging the Wix Studio low-code environment to create a meaningful project for your portfolio.

Ania Kubów (@ania_kubow) will be returning as our guest judge. With her extensive experience as a software developer, educator, and popular YouTuber, Ania brings a wealth of knowledge to the table. Showcase your work to one of the software’s most respected voices!

There will be one prompt for this challenge, with one lucky and talented winner.

Our Prompt

For this challenge, your mission is to build your dream community platform on Wix Studio – a digital space that enables groups of people with shared interests, goals, or characteristics to interact, collaborate, and engage with each other online.

With Wix Studio, you can rapidly build a tailored platform to meet your community’s exact needs by leveraging Wix Apps and their associated Velo APIs. Launching a community app also requires considering many factors including scalability, reliability, performance, and security, so we are excited for you to experience Wix Studio’s built-in infrastructure and adaptability!

Judging and Prizes

We’ll be selecting one winner for this challenge to take home the entire prize. Our winner will receive:

All Participants with a valid submission will receive a completion badge on their DEV profile.

How To Participate

To participate, you will need to build a Wix Studio site and publish a post using the submission template below.

All submissions must be developed using Wix Studio and utilize the following in a meaningful way connected to the project’s primary goal:

Two or more Velo APIs
Two or more Wix Apps and their associated APIs

Submissions must include original code and should not contain custom elements or iFrames.

Steps to Creating a Wix Studio Site For New Users (VERY IMPORTANT)

Navigate to the Wix Studio page
Click “Start Creating”
Create an account
Select “For a client, as a freelancer or an agency” and click continue
Click “Go to Wix Studio”
Click “As a freelancer”
Select “Web Development” and click continue
Click “Start Creating”

Wix offers a free tier for Wix Studio and you do not need a credit card to sign up.

Here are some ideas and resources to help you get started:

Common Features: Every community platform is different but some features you may want to consider include user profiles, discussion boards, messaging, events, and content sharing capabilities. You are not limited to, or required, to implement all these features.
Examples of Shared Interests: If no particular community stands out to you personally, here are some examples of interest groups you could build for: fashion, technology, health, food, sports, music, gaming, art, travel, literature, entrepreneurship, and career. We encourage you to get as broad or as niche as your desire calls!
Utilizing Wix Studio’s Visual Design Templates: Building on top of visual design templates is allowed for this challenge, and is one of the key ways you can leverage Wix’s ecosystem to improve your productivity.
Wix AI Assistant: The Wix IDE offers a powerful AI assistant that you can leverage to improve your workflow and productivity.
