YouTube’s community notes feature rips a page out of X’s playbook

YouTube is borrowing a page from X (Twitter) and adding a community notes feature ahead of the 2024 US election. The company wants the short viewer-created blurbs to add relevant context to videos, such as pointing out misinformation or old footage passed off as new.Notes will roll out initially as a pilot program for “a limited number of eligible contributors,” who will receive an invitation via email or Creator Studio. The invited participants will need to have an active YouTube account in good standing.During the pilot phase, “third-party evaluators” will rate notes’ helpfulness to help train the system. Apple Pay Later is dead, long live Affirm loans

Apple Pay Later is kaput. The company confirmed to TechCrunch on Monday that it’s killing the service only two years after first announcing it at WWDC 2022 — and only seven months after it became available to everyone in the US.The company said at its developer conference last week that loans through third-party service Affirm are coming to Apple Pay later this year, so the two would have been redundant. “Users in the U.S. will also be able to apply for loans directly through Affirm when they check out with Apple Pay,” the company wrote in a newsroom post after…

What are the Benefits of Using ECMAScript Classes Over Traditional Prototype-Based Inheritance?

What are the Benefits of Using ECMAScript Classes Over Traditional Prototype-Based Inheritance?

JavaScript has long utilized prototype-based inheritance as a core mechanism to build reusable code. This traditional approach of leveraging prototypes to define methods and properties that JavaScript objects can inherit has served developers well over the years by offering flexibility and dynamic features that help drive web innovation. But with ECMAScript 2015, also known as ES6, JavaScript embraced a new syntactic feature—classes. These ECMAScript classes provide a much clearer and more familiar syntax for creating objects and dealing with inheritance, drawing close parallels with classical object-oriented programming languages. Understanding Prototype-Based Inheritance In JavaScript, objects utilize prototype-based inheritance, a form of…

#babylonjs Browser MMORPG #indiegamedev Ep21 – Spatial Hash Grid Area of Interest

HelloI'm working on POC (prove of concept) implementation of monsters system. I managed to achieve first milestone which is loading entities into engine. And finally i have occasion to show You how my hash grid area of interest is working.Engine is refreshing area of interest data each second and it sends info to the clients to show/remove entity. There're two visibility ranges. First is lower (eg 50 units) it describes distance below which entity should be visible and second visibility range (eg 100 units) is bigger and it's use to hide entities. This way I'm avoiding sending create/remove entity command when…

The US has sued Adobe over early termination fees and making subscriptions hard to cancel

The US government has sued Adobe and two senior company executives for allegedly deceiving consumers by hiding early termination fees and making them jump through hoops to cancel subscriptions to Adobe products. The complaint filed by the Department of Justice on Monday accuses the Adobe of pushing consumers towards its “annual paid monthly” subscription plan without adequately disclosing that canceling the plan within the first year could result in an early termination fee.
