Pinterest looks to enhance positive user experiences – SiliconANGLE

Hannah Pham (pictured), head of data science and product analytics, consumers, at Pinterest Inc., loved math early in life. Data science became an attractive field to her given its focus of using data and math to solve problems and make things better. There’s so much good that can be done with data, according to Pham. It’s why she said she was drawn to Pinterest. “The power of what you can do with the implication of the models, of the insights you bring to the table, and how does that feed all of the decisions,” Pham said. “Knowing and being aware of…

An Auditing Startup Produced 2024’s Biggest VC-Backed M&A Exit. Who Could Be Next?

An Auditing Startup Produced 2024’s Biggest VC-Backed M&A Exit. Who Could Be Next?

Big M&A deals don’t always involve the buzziest industries or companies. For a case in point, look at last week: Software investor Hg announced it would pay over $3 billion to acquire auditing platform provider AuditBoard. Amid a slow period for big M&A transactions, the deal ranks as the largest purchase of a U.S. private, venture-backed company in 2024, per Crunchbase data. If AuditBoard is a name you’ve never heard of, you’re not alone. While the Cerritos, California-based company has an enviable track record — profitable, with over $200 million in annual revenue —  it wasn’t a heavy venture fundraiser.…

GenAI-Generated News: Less Accurate, Timelier, Survey Finds

GenAI-Generated News: Less Accurate, Timelier, Survey Finds

(iQoncept/Shutterstock) People are less likely to believe news written by generative AI, according to a recent public opinion survey conducted by Reuters, but the news would be timelier and cost less for the publisher to produce. The online survey also found GenAI tools are not being as widely adopted by consumers as some people may think. The Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism (RISJ) at the University of Oxford contracted with YouGov to answer questions in two main areas: Determine how people are adopting GenAI broadly, and gauge their feelings towards GenAI-generated journalism specifically. The survey was conducted online…

US House bill would require national security reviews on connected vehicles from China

US House bill would require national security reviews on connected vehicles from China

Newly proposed Congressional legislation would require the US to conduct security reviews for connected vehicles built by automakers from China and “other countries of concern.” Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), a former CIA analyst and Pentagon official who has championed the issue, introduced the bill on Wednesday. If passed by Congress (a tall order these days), the Connected Vehicle National Security Review Act would establish a formal review process for connected autos from Chinese companies. It would also allow the Department of Commerce to limit or ban these cars and other vehicles before they reach US consumers.“Today’s vehicles are more sophisticated than…

What does AI mean for Australian democracy? And what can we do about it?

What does AI mean for Australian democracy? And what can we do about it?

Last week, the head of Australia’s election regulator warned the organisation “does not possess the legislative tools or internal technical capability to deter, detect or adequately deal with false AI-generated content concerning the election process”. This remark, made to a senate committee on adopting artificial intelligence (AI), is not an isolated comment. The relationship between AI and democracy is the topic of many, increasingly urgent conversations taking place around the world. More than 60 countries will head to the polls in 2024, in what has been dubbed “the biggest election year in history”. Australia is expecting to hold elections in…

OpenAI is devouring the media industry

OpenAI is devouring the media industry

Time's almost up! There's only one week left to request an invite to The AI Impact Tour on June 5th. Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity to explore various methods for auditing AI models. Find out how you can attend here. Let’s make one thing clear up front: I’m generally pro-generative AI. At least, I am a lot more amenable to it — and use it myself daily in the form of parsing information via ChatGPT and generating images with it and Midjourney — than many of my peers in the journalism industry. Nonetheless, I am curious and concerned…
