Evaluating the Impact of Advanced LLM Techniques on AI-Lecture Tutors for a Robotics Course

arXiv:2408.04645v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: This study evaluates the performance of Large Language Models (LLMs) as an Artificial Intelligence-based tutor for a university course. In particular, different advanced techniques are utilized, such as prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented-Generation (RAG), and fine-tuning. We assessed the different models and applied techniques using common similarity metrics like BLEU-4, ROUGE, and BERTScore, complemented by a small human evaluation of helpfulness and trustworthiness. Our findings indicate that RAG combined with prompt engineering significantly enhances model responses and produces better factual answers. In the context of education, RAG appears as an ideal technique as it is based on…

Most-Active US Investors In July: Andreessen Horowitz Led Cool Month

Most-Active US Investors In July: Andreessen Horowitz Led Cool Month

This is a monthly feature that runs down some of the most-active investors in U.S.-based companies, looks at some of their most interesting investments, and includes some odds and ends of who spent what. July was hot over most of the country, but apparently not at many venture firms. Only one firm — Andreessen Horowitz — hit double digits in the number of funding rounds for U.S.-based startups in the month. Big-named firms such as Khosla Ventures and New Enterprise Associates made only a couple of deals each, as no firm rolled up big numbers. Let’s take a look at…

DevOps: An Easy-to-follow Guide for Non-IT People

DevOps, a transformative approach to software application development, has become a crucial part of the modern tech landscape. Traditionally seen as a domain for IT professionals, DevOps is increasingly opening its doors to individuals from non-IT backgrounds. This guide will explore how non-IT professionals can thrive in DevOps by leveraging both technical and soft skills. Key Principles of DevOps1. Collaboration: DevOps is all about breaking down the traditional silos between Development and Operations teams. This democratization of roles fosters better collaboration, ensuring that both teams work together seamlessly to deliver high-quality software at speed. By aligning goals and processes, DevOps…

Intel’s AI fumble: How the chip giant missed a big opportunity

Intel’s AI fumble: How the chip giant missed a big opportunity

In the fast-paced world of technology, missing the next big thing can be costly. For Intel, the semiconductor titan that once reigned supreme in the computer age, one such moment came and went quietly between 2017 and 2018. It was then that the company declined an opportunity that, in hindsight, appears to have been a golden ticket to the AI revolution. Recent reports reveal that Intel had the chance to acquire a 15% stake in OpenAI for $1 billion, with the potential for an additional 15% stake in exchange for producing hardware at cost. At the time, OpenAI was a fledgling non-profit…

Elon Musk initially said the Cybertruck would cost from $39,900. Now, you can’t buy it for much less than $100,000.

Nearly five years later, that dream looks further away than ever. Right now, the lowest-priced Cybertruck costs a cool $100,000.Tesla has quietly removed the option to preorder the rear-wheel and all-wheel drive versions of the Cybertruck, according to an archived version of its website. These cost around $61,000 and $80,000, respectively, and were expected to be available in 2025.That means if you want to buy the truck, your only options are the $99,990 all-wheel drive Cybertruck or the $119,990 Cyberbeast. It's unclear what this means for the planned cheaper versions of the Cybertruck, though Cybertruck lead engineer Wes Morrill appeared to confirm in…

What Is Generative AI? | TechRepublic

Generative artificial intelligence refers to deep learning models that can generate content such as images, code, text, and other forms of media. These algorithms are trained to identify patterns using large datasets, enabling them to produce similar output. Maria Carrisa Sanchez, writing for TechRepublic Premium, presents this explanation of generative AI, including its evolution, features, examples, drawbacks, and benefits. Featured text from the feature: HOW DOES GEN AI WORK? Gen AI is a complex interplay of components and technologies, enabling the generation of creative and contextually relevant content. The key components and underlying mechanisms responsible for the functioning of gen…
