MinIO Debuts DataPod, a Reference Architecture for Exascale AI Storage

MinIO Debuts DataPod, a Reference Architecture for Exascale AI Storage

MinIO DataPod reference architecture (Image courtesy MinIO) The number of companies planning to store an exabyte of data or more is skyrocketing, thanks to the AI revolution. To help streamline the storage buildouts and calm queasy CFO stomachs, MinIO last week proposed a reference architecture for exascale storage that allows enterprises to get to exascale in repeatable 100 PB increments using industry standard off-the-shelf infrastructure, called DataPod. Ten years ago, at the height of the big data boom, the average analytics deployment among enterprises was in the single-digit petabytes, and only the largest data-first companies had data sets exceeding 100…

Databricks Clean Rooms for privacy-safe collaboration is in Public Preview

Fueled by the exponential growth in external data and AI for innovation, organizations across all industries are looking for effective ways to collaborate with their partners in a privacy-safe way. Some organizations have limited collaborative solutions and are often required to relinquish control over how their sensitive data is shared with little to no visibility into how their data is consumed. This creates a significant risk for potential data misuse and data privacy breaches. Organizations need an open, flexible, yet privacy-safe way to collaborate and do AI on data, and Databricks Clean Rooms meets these critical needs. As we recently announced…

OpenAI Has Software That Detects AI Writing With 99.9 Percent Accuracy, Refuses to Release It

"It’s just a matter of pressing a button."Water MarkerChatGPT creator OpenAI has developed internal tools for watermarking and tracking AI-generated content with 99.9 percent accuracy, the Wall Street Journal reports — but is refusing to release it.Effective tools for flagging AI-generated text could be useful in any number of situations, from cracking down on cheating students to sorting through the AI-generated sludge filling the web.Which is why it's so surprising that OpenAI, as the WSJ reports, has been quietly hanging onto tools that could do exactly that."It’s just a matter of pressing a button," a source familiar with the project told…

A second Iranian attack on Israel would likely dwarf its first

A second Iranian attack on Israel would likely dwarf its first

Iran has repeatedly vowed it will attack Israel in response to the assassination of Hamas' political leader in Tehran on July 31. Its main proxy, Hezbollah in Lebanon, has also vowed to join Iran to avenge Israel's killing of one of its most senior commanders, Fuad Shukr, in Beirut the day before. If Iran and its allies want to show Israel the killings have a cost, they will likely try to catch Israel's defenses off guard or to overwhelm them — suggesting an even larger and more dangerous confrontation than their April barrage. The killing of Hamas' Ismail Haniyeh was a humiliation…

[Submitted on 2 Aug 2024] View a PDF of the paper titled FIVB ranking: Misstep in the right direction, by Salma Tenni and 2 other authors View PDF HTML (experimental) Abstract:This work uses a statistical framework to present and evaluate the ranking algorithm that has been used by Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) since 2020. The salient feature of the FIVB ranking is the use of the probabilistic model, which explicitly calculates the probabilities of the games to come. This explicit modeling is new in the context of official ranking, and we study the optimality of its parameters as well…

Using a CNN Model to Assess Visual Artwork’s Creativity

Using a CNN Model to Assess Visual Artwork’s Creativity

arXiv:2408.01481v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Assessing artistic creativity has long challenged researchers, with traditional methods proving time-consuming. Recent studies have applied machine learning to evaluate creativity in drawings, but not paintings. Our research addresses this gap by developing a CNN model to automatically assess the creativity of students' paintings. Using a dataset of 600 paintings by professionals and children, our model achieved 90% accuracy and faster evaluation times than human raters. This approach demonstrates the potential of machine learning in advancing artistic creativity assessment, offering a more efficient alternative to traditional methods. Source link lol
