A coalition of eight U.S. newspapers is suing ChatGPT-maker OpenAI and Microsoft Corp, alleging that they have engaged in “purloining millions” of copyrighted news articles without permission or payment to train their generative AI models. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, comes from the Chicago Tribune, the New York Daily News, the Orlando Sentinel, the Sun Sentinel in Florida, The Mercury News in San Jose, California, The Orange County Register in California and the Pioneer Press of Minnesota.
