AI for the prediction of early stages of Alzheimer’s disease from neuroimaging biomarkers — A narrative review of a growing field

AI for the prediction of early stages of Alzheimer’s disease from neuroimaging biomarkers — A narrative review of a growing field

arXiv:2406.17822v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Objectives: The objectives of this narrative review are to summarize the current state of AI applications in neuroimaging for early Alzheimer's disease (AD) prediction and to highlight the potential of AI techniques in improving early AD diagnosis, prognosis, and management. Methods: We conducted a narrative review of studies using AI techniques applied to neuroimaging data for early AD prediction. We examined single-modality studies using structural MRI and PET imaging, as well as multi-modality studies integrating multiple neuroimaging techniques and biomarkers. Furthermore, they reviewed longitudinal studies that model AD progression and identify individuals at risk of…

ET tu, CLIP? Addressing Common Object Errors for Unseen Environments

arXiv:2406.17876v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: We introduce a simple method that employs pre-trained CLIP encoders to enhance model generalization in the ALFRED task. In contrast to previous literature where CLIP replaces the visual encoder, we suggest using CLIP as an additional module through an auxiliary object detection objective. We validate our method on the recently proposed Episodic Transformer architecture and demonstrate that incorporating CLIP improves task performance on the unseen validation set. Additionally, our analysis results support that CLIP especially helps with leveraging object descriptions, detecting small objects, and interpreting rare words. Source link lol

Eye On AI: OpenAI Goes On A Buying Spree As AI Looks To Open Up M&A, IPO Markets

Eye On AI: OpenAI Goes On A Buying Spree As AI Looks To Open Up M&A, IPO Markets

This column is a look back at the week that was in AI. Read the previous one here. It may be the big funding rounds that grab the headlines when it comes to the startup world, but for investors it’s the exit that actually matters. For the past few years the M&A market for startups has been slow — and the IPO pipeline nonexistent. However, just as AI is taking over venture, perhaps it is doing that for the M&A and IPO markets. OpenAI — which reportedly has doubled annualized revenue to $3.4 billion — opened up its wallet the…

Enhancing Commentary Strategies for Imperfect Information Card Games: A Study of Large Language Models in Guandan Commentary

Enhancing Commentary Strategies for Imperfect Information Card Games: A Study of Large Language Models in Guandan Commentary

arXiv:2406.17807v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Recent advancements in large language models (LLMs) have unlocked the potential for generating high-quality game commentary. However, producing insightful and engaging commentary for complex games with incomplete information remains a significant challenge. In this paper, we introduce a novel commentary method that combine Reinforcement Learning (RL) and LLMs, tailored specifically for the Chinese card game textit{Guandan}. Our system leverages RL to generate intricate card-playing scenarios and employs LLMs to generate corresponding commentary text, effectively emulating the strategic analysis and narrative prowess of professional commentators. The framework comprises a state commentary guide, a Theory of Mind…

The Morning After: Microsoft’s Surface Pro Copilot+ is the best Surface tablet yet

Twelve years on, Microsoft has finally made an Arm-powered Surface tablet that doesn’t send our reviewers into a rage. The 2024 Surface Pro, or the Surface Pro Copilot+, is the fastest and most efficient Microsoft tablet we’ve seen, especially when paired with its Flex keyboard. The new OLED screen is great, and its NPU allows for powerful AI features. EngadgetHowever, those much-hyped AI features are far less compelling than the one-two punch of speed and solid battery life. (Take note: That’s most of what we want, laptop/tablet makers.) You can use Cocreator in Paint to generate AI images alongside text…
