Crafting Efficient Fine-Tuning Strategies for Large Language Models

Crafting Efficient Fine-Tuning Strategies for Large Language Models

arXiv:2407.13906v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: This paper addresses the challenges of efficiently fine-tuning large language models (LLMs) by exploring data efficiency and hyperparameter optimization. We investigate the minimum data required for effective fine-tuning and propose a novel hyperparameter optimization method that leverages early-stage model performance. Our experiments demonstrate that fine-tuning with as few as 200 samples can improve model accuracy from 70% to 88% in a product attribute extraction task. We identify a saturation point of approximately 6,500 samples, beyond which additional data yields diminishing returns. Our proposed bayesian hyperparameter optimization method, which evaluates models at 20% of total training…

Gaming Startup Funding Fell In Q2

Gaming Startup Funding Fell In Q2

Funding to gaming startups is a lot like gaming itself. Sometimes players are up or down due to factors like skill, practice and perseverance. Other times, it’s just dumb luck. Investment in gaming startups is like that too. Sometimes funding fluctuates for concrete reasons like the quality of the startup pipeline or how overall investment is trending. Other times, there’s no obvious cause. The second quarter appears to be one of those other times. Per Crunchbase data, global funding to gaming-focused startups totaled $579 million in Q2 — down 33% from Q1 and roughly flat compared to the same period…

Data-driven Forecasting of Deep Learning Performance on GPUs

Data-driven Forecasting of Deep Learning Performance on GPUs

arXiv:2407.13853v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Deep learning kernels exhibit predictable memory accesses and compute patterns, making GPUs' parallel architecture well-suited for their execution. Software and runtime systems for GPUs are optimized to better utilize the stream multiprocessors, on-chip cache, and off-chip high-bandwidth memory. As deep learning models and GPUs evolve, access to newer GPUs is often limited, raising questions about the performance of new model architectures on existing GPUs, existing models on new GPUs, and new model architectures on new GPUs. To address these questions, we introduce NeuSight, a framework to predict the performance of various deep learning models, for…

Which objects help me to act effectively? Reasoning about physically-grounded affordances

[Submitted on 18 Jul 2024] View a PDF of the paper titled Which objects help me to act effectively? Reasoning about physically-grounded affordances, by Anne Kemmeren and 4 other authors View PDF HTML (experimental) Abstract:For effective interactions with the open world, robots should understand how interactions with known and novel objects help them towards their goal. A key aspect of this understanding lies in detecting an object's affordances, which represent the potential effects that can be achieved by manipulating the object in various ways. Our approach leverages a dialogue of large language models (LLMs) and vision-language models (VLMs) to achieve…

Enhancing Security in ASP.NET Core APIs with Content Security Policy (CSP)

Enhancing Security in ASP.NET Core APIs with Content Security Policy (CSP)

Content Security Policy (CSP) is a security feature that helps mitigate the risk of cross-site scripting (XSS), clickjacking, and other code injection attacks. It allows you to specify the sources of content that browsers should consider trusted, effectively reducing the attack surface of your application. CSP works by adding a Content-Security-Policy header to your HTTP response, which instructs the browser to enforce the specified policy. For example, a CSP can restrict your application to load scripts, styles, and other resources only from specific, trusted origins. This means that even if an attacker manages to inject malicious code into your application,…

Uncovering Political Bias in Emotion Inference Models: Implications for sentiment analysis in social science research

Uncovering Political Bias in Emotion Inference Models: Implications for sentiment analysis in social science research

arXiv:2407.13891v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: This paper investigates the presence of political bias in emotion inference models used for sentiment analysis (SA) in social science research. Machine learning models often reflect biases in their training data, impacting the validity of their outcomes. While previous research has highlighted gender and race biases, our study focuses on political bias - an underexplored yet pervasive issue that can skew the interpretation of text data across a wide array of studies. We conducted a bias audit on a Polish sentiment analysis model developed in our lab. By analyzing valence predictions for names and sentences…

MAGA world is really mad that Trump is no longer running against Biden

In the wake of President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the Democratic Party's 2024 race, it sure looks like MAGA world will be very sad to see him go. Biden decided on Sunday to reject his party's presidential nomination, and endorsed his Vice President Kamala Harris for the top ticket instead. His announcement sparked angry outbursts from former President Donald Trump and his supporters, some of whom called the sudden switch in candidates a "coup.""So, we are forced to spend time and money on fighting Crooked Joe Biden, he polls badly after having a terrible debate, and quits the race," Trump wrote…
