A former model accused Diddy in a new lawsuit of sexually assaulting and drugging her in 2003. He’s now facing 5 suits.

A former model filed a lawsuit Tuesday, accusing embattled music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs of sexually assaulting her in 2003.Crystal McKinney, according to a lawsuit obtained by Business Insider, met Combs at a 2003 Men's Fashion Week event in Manhattan when she was 22. According to the lawsuit, McKinney was introduced to Combs by a fashion designer who believed Combs could "advance her modeling career."The suit, filed in New York's Southern District Court, alleged Combs had been "coming on to plaintiff in a sexually suggestive manner" at the restaurant they were dining at."Combs also plied plaintiff with alcohol throughout the…

The Arabic Noun System Generation

The Arabic Noun System Generation

arXiv:2405.11014v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: In this paper, we show that the multiple-stem approach to nouns with a broken plural pattern allows for greater generalizations to be stated in the morphological system. Such an approach dispenses with truncating/deleting rules and other complex rules that are required to account for the highly allomorphic broken plural system. The generation of inflected sound nouns necessitates a pre-specification of the affixes denoting the sound plural masculine and the sound plural feminine, namely uwna and aAt, in the lexicon. The first subsection of section one provides an evaluation of some of the previous analyses of…

Imec raises €2.5B for advanced chip tech R&D pilot line

Global R&D hub Imec Flanders today announced at its annual Imec Technology Forum in Antwerp (ITF World 2024) that it has raised a €2.5 billion investment to establish a new R&D pilot line for advanced chip technology and systems-on-chip.  Imec is the world's largest independent research centre in nanoelectronics and digital technology. The NanoIC pilot line is part of the EU Chips Act's vision to accelerate innovation in Europe, stimulate economic growth, and strengthen the European chip industry's ecosystem.  The EU Chips Act focuses on four strategic pilot lines, spread across several European member states to bridge the gap between…

MediaTek launches powerful Dimensity 9300+ chip

MediaTek has unveiled the Dimensity 9300+, its newest addition to the Dimensity series of mobile chips. The Dimensity 9300+ features enhanced clock speeds and is engineered to boost the processing of on-device generative AI. It supports a wide range of large language models (LLMs) and provides several other performance improvements compared to its predecessor, the Dimensity 9300.JC Hsu, MediaTek's Corporate Senior Vice President, emphasized, "The Dimensity 9300+ will enhance our ability to foster a vibrant generative AI application ecosystem through extensive LLM support and on-device LoRA Fusion capabilities. It delivers remarkable enhancements and speeds for LLM inference, processing tokens much more…

Meta introduces Chameleon, a state-of-the-art multimodal model

Join us in returning to NYC on June 5th to collaborate with executive leaders in exploring comprehensive methods for auditing AI models regarding bias, performance, and ethical compliance across diverse organizations. Find out how you can attend here. As competition in the generative AI field shifts toward multimodal models, Meta has released a preview of what can be its answer to the models released by frontier labs. Chameleon, its new family of models, has been designed to be natively multi-modal instead of putting together components with different modalities.  While Meta has not released the models yet, their reported experiments show…

Robot-phobia could exacerbate hotel, restaurant labor shortage

Robot-phobia could exacerbate hotel, restaurant labor shortage

Using more robots to close labor gaps in the hospitality industry may backfire and cause more human workers to quit, according to a Washington State University study. The study, involving more than 620 lodging and food service employees, found that "robot-phobia" -- specifically the fear that robots and technology will take human jobs -- increased workers' job insecurity and stress, leading to greater intentions to leave their jobs. The impact was more pronounced with employees who had real experience working with robotic technology. It also affected managers in addition to frontline workers. The findings were published in theInternational Journal of…

Fine Tuning Phi 1.5 using QLoRA on the Stanford Alpaca Dataset

Fine Tuning Phi 1.5 using QLoRA on the Stanford Alpaca Dataset

Quantized LoRA, more commonly known as QLoRA is a combination of quantization and Low Rank Adaptation for fine-tuning LLMs. Simply put, LoRa is a technique to adapt Large Language Models to specific tasks without making them forget their pretraining knowledge. In QLoRa, we load the pretrained model weights in quantized format, say 4-bit (INT4). However, the adapter (LoRA) layers are loaded in full precision, FP16 or FP32. This reduces the memory (GPU) consumption by a great extent making fine tuning possible on low resource hardware. To this end, in this article, we will be fine tuning the Phi 1.5 model…

Looking ahead to the AI Seoul Summit

How summits in Seoul, France and beyond can galvanize international cooperation on frontier AI safetyLast year, the UK Government hosted the first major global Summit on frontier AI safety at Bletchley Park. It focused the world’s attention on rapid progress at the frontier of AI development and delivered concrete international action to respond to potential future risks, including the Bletchley Declaration; new AI Safety Institutes; and the International Scientific Report on Advanced AI Safety.Six months on from Bletchley, the international community has an opportunity to build on that momentum and galvanize further global cooperation at this week’s AI Seoul Summit.…
