LAPIS: Language Model-Augmented Police Investigation System

arXiv:2407.20248v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Crime situations are race against time. An AI-assisted criminal investigation system, providing prompt but precise legal counsel is in need for police officers. We introduce LAPIS (Language Model Augmented Police Investigation System), an automated system that assists police officers to perform rational and legal investigative actions. We constructed a finetuning dataset and retrieval knowledgebase specialized in crime investigation legal reasoning task. We extended the dataset's quality by incorporating manual curation efforts done by a group of domain experts. We then finetuned the pretrained weights of a smaller Korean language model to the newly constructed dataset…

“Eslint-Summary” — Hack your Eslint Config

Get full information about used rules and plugins in the eslint-config on the project with just one console command Introduction Not very often, but we need to understand what rules are used in our eslint-config on a project. There could be several reasons for this: Control of third-party rules. It’s more profitable for developers to use pre-built style guides from other teams. For example, Google or Airbnb. However, keeping track of other people’s rules is extremely inconvenient, especially if the rules are actively being added and changed. Familiarize team members with the current style guide. If your configuration consists of…

Dozens of angry Chinese suppliers swarmed Temu’s office, saying they’re tired of giving Westerners refunds without returns

Hundreds of people thronged the Guangzhou office of the e-commerce platform Temu in rallies this month, protesting fines and refund policies they said are destroying small merchants' profits.About 80 merchants gathered on Monday on the 30th floor of the Guangzhou office building, with some eventually gaining entry to the company premises, Chinese outlet Yicai reported. Temu is run by PDD Holdings, which also operates the local online retail platform Pinduoduo. Many of the protesters run small businesses on Temu, a platform that sells Chinese products and has surged in popularity in the West due to lower prices.Yicai reported that employees were…

Revisiting the Disequilibrium Issues in Tackling Heart Disease Classification Tasks

Revisiting the Disequilibrium Issues in Tackling Heart Disease Classification Tasks

arXiv:2407.20249v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: In the field of heart disease classification, two primary obstacles arise. Firstly, existing Electrocardiogram (ECG) datasets consistently demonstrate imbalances and biases across various modalities. Secondly, these time-series data consist of diverse lead signals, causing Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to become overfitting to the one with higher power, hence diminishing the performance of the Deep Learning (DL) process. In addition, when facing an imbalanced dataset, performance from such high-dimensional data may be susceptible to overfitting. Current efforts predominantly focus on enhancing DL models by designing novel architectures, despite these evident challenges, seemingly overlooking the core issues,…

Only 15 known underwater internet cables connect Australia to the world – and they’re under threat from fishing boats, spies and natural disasters

Only 15 known underwater internet cables connect Australia to the world – and they’re under threat from fishing boats, spies and natural disasters

The Australian government this week announced it would spend A$18 million over four years on a new centre aimed at keeping safe the undersea cables that power the nation’s internet. The Cable Connectivity and Resilience Centre is tasked with protecting the critical undersea telecommunications cables throughout the Indo-Pacific region from deliberate interference from malicious actors, or accidental damage. This is a crucial undertaking. The internet directly contributes $167 billion or more a year to the Australian economy. These cables enable everything from mundane social media updates to the colossal transactions that drive the global economy. But what is driving Australia’s…

Early detection and assessment of forest fires are crucial for effective management and conservation efforts. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) equipped with advanced computer vision algorithms offer a promising solution for forest fire detection and assessment. In this paper, we optimize an integrated forest…

Steamroller Problems: An Evaluation of LLM Reasoning Capability with Automated Theorem Prover Strategies

[Submitted on 17 Jul 2024] View a PDF of the paper titled Steamroller Problems: An Evaluation of LLM Reasoning Capability with Automated Theorem Prover Strategies, by Lachlan McGinness and 1 other authors View PDF Abstract:This study presents the first examination of the ability of Large Language Models (LLMs) to follow reasoning strategies that are used to guide Automated Theorem Provers (ATPs). We evaluate the performance of GPT4, GPT3.5 Turbo and Google's recent Gemini model on problems from a steamroller domain. In addition to determining accuracy we make use of the Natural Language Processing library spaCy to explore new methods of…

JD Vance has the most to lose if Kamala Harris taps Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate

Whoever emerges as Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate has the potential to dramatically reset the 2024 presidential race. After former President Donald Trump selected Ohio Sen. JD Vance as his vice-presidential pick, Republicans were thrilled that the GOP lawmaker's Midwestern roots and working-class upbringing would set him apart from what was previously thought to be President Joe Biden's reelection effort alongside Harris. But Harris, who's now in the driver's seat as the presumptive Democratic nominee, is currently mulling over several potential picks, which reportedly includes two-term Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.Walz, a Nebraska native and former congressman, is seen by many Democrats…
