A Comparison of Recent Algorithms for Symbolic Regression to Genetic Programming

A Comparison of Recent Algorithms for Symbolic Regression to Genetic Programming

arXiv:2406.03585v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Symbolic regression is a machine learning method with the goal to produce interpretable results. Unlike other machine learning methods such as, e.g. random forests or neural networks, which are opaque, symbolic regression aims to model and map data in a way that can be understood by scientists. Recent advancements, have attempted to bridge the gap between these two fields; new methodologies attempt to fuse the mapping power of neural networks and deep learning techniques with the explanatory power of symbolic regression. In this paper, we examine these new emerging systems and test the performance of…

Arranger turns a slide puzzle into an adventure game this July

Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure is due to hit PC, Switch, PlayStation 5 and mobile devices on July 25.Arranger is an adventure game with a simple and disruptive conceit: The world exists on a grid of sliding tiles. Moving the main character, Jemma, slides the connected row or column of tiles with her, shifting the landscape as she travels. This mechanic turns walking into a puzzle and it forms the basis of the game’s spatial riddles.Jemma is a misfit who’s venturing outside of her cozy home for the first time, discovering all of the amazing and terrifying things the wider world…

Microsoft’s Recall feature will now be opt-in and double encrypted after privacy outcry

Microsoft’s Recall feature will now be opt-in and double encrypted after privacy outcry

VB Transform 2024 returns this July! Over 400 enterprise leaders will gather in San Francisco from July 9-11 to dive into the advancement of GenAI strategies and engaging in thought-provoking discussions within the community. Find out how you can attend here. Microsoft has announced major changes to its recently unveiled AI-powered Recall feature, part of the new line of Copilot+ PCs, in response to blistering criticism from security researchers about potential privacy risks. The company said it would make the feature opt-in, require biometric authentication to access stored data, and add additional layers of encryption. Introduced last month, Recall was…

3rd Place Solution for MOSE Track in CVPR 2024 PVUW workshop: Complex Video Object Segmentation

arXiv:2406.03668v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Video Object Segmentation (VOS) is a vital task in computer vision, focusing on distinguishing foreground objects from the background across video frames. Our work draws inspiration from the Cutie model, and we investigate the effects of object memory, the total number of memory frames, and input resolution on segmentation performance. This report validates the effectiveness of our inference method on the coMplex video Object SEgmentation (MOSE) dataset, which features complex occlusions. Our experimental results demonstrate that our approach achieves a J&F score of 0.8139 on the test set, securing the third position in the final…

Easily analyze real-time financial data like a pro | Deephaven

For those of you who haven't been following my blog series, I am an intern at Deephaven, working on a project to learn Deephaven's software. I've now reached my goal of analyzing data in real time. In my last post, I used Deephaven to complete an analysis of MicroStrategy's $205 million Bitcoin-backed loan. While the prediction was good, the data I used was static and couldn't update as the trading day progresses. To level up my analysis, I used Deephaven's powerful Interactive Brokers plugin to access and analyze real-time financial data in the Deephaven framework I've become comfortable with. Working with…

Scientists finally think they know where the most dangerous part of this US earthquake zone is and it’s bad news for Washington

Hidden off the US Western shore, beneath the Pacific Ocean, is the Cascadia Subduction Zone. This fault is capable of generating earthquakes larger than magnitude 8 that can be felt hundreds of miles away, and a recent study has pinpointed the most dangerous segment along its 700-mile-long stretch. The results will help scientists assess earthquake and tsunami risk for this region, including one particularly vulnerable state: Washington."This has been a subduction zone that's been under-studied with the kinds of tools that we have available now," geophysicist Suzanne Carbotte, a Bruce Heezen Lamont research professor at Columbia University, told Business Insider.Armed with…

M-QALM: A Benchmark to Assess Clinical Reading Comprehension and Knowledge Recall in Large Language Models via Question Answering

arXiv:2406.03699v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: There is vivid research on adapting Large Language Models (LLMs) to perform a variety of tasks in high-stakes domains such as healthcare. Despite their popularity, there is a lack of understanding of the extent and contributing factors that allow LLMs to recall relevant knowledge and combine it with presented information in the clinical and biomedical domain: a fundamental pre-requisite for success on down-stream tasks. Addressing this gap, we use Multiple Choice and Abstractive Question Answering to conduct a large-scale empirical study on 22 datasets in three generalist and three specialist biomedical sub-domains. Our multifaceted analysis…

Resolving the “Length of LOB Data (78862) to be Replicated Exceeds Configured Maximum 65536” Error

Resolving the “Length of LOB Data (78862) to be Replicated Exceeds Configured Maximum 65536” Error

Understanding the Error The error indicates that the LOB data size (78862 bytes) exceeds the configured maximum limit (65536 bytes) set for replication in SQL Server. This typically happens during the replication process, leading to the failure of data transfer. Common Causes Default Configuration Limits: SQL Server has default settings for the maximum size of LOB data that can be replicated. Large Data Inserts: Inserting large multimedia files or extensive text data can exceed the default LOB size limit. Inadequate Configuration Settings: The database settings might not be optimized for handling large LOB data, resulting in replication issues. Solutions to Resolve…

Hugging Face and Pollen Robotics show off first project: an open source robot that does chores

VB Transform 2024 returns this July! Over 400 enterprise leaders will gather in San Francisco from July 9-11 to dive into the advancement of GenAI strategies and engaging in thought-provoking discussions within the community. Find out how you can attend here. Earlier this year, the open source AI code community and company Hugging Face, headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, made waves by announcing the hiring of a former robotics engineer from Tesla’s Optimus program to lead its new effort — an open-source robotics program called “Le Robot.” Today, that engineer, Remi Cadene, of Paris, France, posted on X a video…
