RayGauss: Volumetric Gaussian-Based Ray Casting for Photorealistic Novel View Synthesis

RayGauss: Volumetric Gaussian-Based Ray Casting for Photorealistic Novel View Synthesis

arXiv:2408.03356v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Differentiable volumetric rendering-based methods made significant progress in novel view synthesis. On one hand, innovative methods have replaced the Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) network with locally parameterized structures, enabling high-quality renderings in a reasonable time. On the other hand, approaches have used differentiable splatting instead of NeRF's ray casting to optimize radiance fields rapidly using Gaussian kernels, allowing for fine adaptation to the scene. However, differentiable ray casting of irregularly spaced kernels has been scarcely explored, while splatting, despite enabling fast rendering times, is susceptible to clearly visible artifacts. Our work closes this gap by…

Optimus: Accelerating Large-Scale Multi-Modal LLM Training by Bubble Exploitation

arXiv:2408.03505v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) have extended the success of large language models (LLMs) to multiple data types, such as image, text and audio, achieving significant performance in various domains, including multimodal translation, visual question answering and content generation. Nonetheless, existing systems are inefficient to train MLLMs due to substantial GPU bubbles caused by the heterogeneous modality models and complex data dependencies in 3D parallelism. This paper proposes Optimus, a distributed MLLM training system that reduces end-to-end MLLM training time. Optimus is based on our principled analysis that scheduling the encoder computation within the LLM…

The Morning After: Google replaces Chromecast with the TV Streamer

The Morning After: Google replaces Chromecast with the TV Streamer

, Google has unveiled its latest product for the living room, the . It replaces the Chromecast and is a standalone set-top box as opposed to the dongles we’ve been used to. The tiny wedge-shaped doodad supports all the expected features, including HDR, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and spatial audio. But Google is also making a big deal of the device’s smart home bona fides, with support for Matter and Thread. You’ll get a popover Google Home panel too, letting you tweak your smart home from the comfort of your TV.Of course, you might wonder why Google needs to push…

SQL, split values of two columns respectively and count members of their intersection #eg20

SQL, split values of two columns respectively and count members of their intersection #eg20

In PostgreSQL database’s table T, items_current_order field and items_next_order field contain comma-separated strings having duplicate characters and enclosed by braces: We need to add a computed column named count to the table. Rule: Split items_current_order field and items_next_order field respectively into a set having duplicate members and count members of their intersection. Write the following SPL code: derive() function adds a computed column to A1’s table. #3 represents the 3rd field; we can also use name to represent the field. split() function splits each string; @c option means using the comma to separate the string. ^ is the operator for…

The new Miss USA went from West Point to the pageant stage

Before competing at her first pageant, all Alma Cooper had was just her mom and a dream. She competed at Miss Michigan Teen USA 2016 in a dress from Facebook Marketplace, which her mother had bejeweled with hundreds of beads."I can't even put into words this surreal feeling," Cooper told Business Insider after she won the crown in Los Angeles on Sunday night. "I have so much gratitude toward the shoulders that I stand upon and all the people who have supported me to get to this point." Cooper has dreamed of winning Miss USA since she was a little girl.…

Malaysia Boasts of Chip Clout as Infineon Opens €7 Billion Site

Malaysia is gaining more heft in the global supply chain as Infineon Technologies AG opens a major semiconductor manufacturing complex in the country, the Southeast Asian nation’s leader said. “We are now be able to receive and expand the technology. It shows Malaysia is now going up the ladder,” Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said at the opening ceremony of the first phase of Infineon’s €7 billion ($7.7 billion) production site in the northern Malaysian district of Kulim on Thursday. LAMPO: Large Language Models as Preference Machines for Few-shot Ordinal Classification

arXiv:2408.03359v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: We introduce LAMPO, a novel paradigm that leverages Large Language Models (LLMs) for solving few-shot multi-class ordinal classification tasks. Unlike conventional methods, which concatenate all demonstration examples with the test instance and prompt LLMs to produce the pointwise prediction, our framework uses the LLM as a preference machine that makes a relative comparative decision between the test instance and each demonstration. A self-supervised method is then introduced to aggregate these binary comparisons into the final ordinal decision. LAMPO addresses several limitations inherent in previous methods, including context length constraints, ordering biases, and challenges associated with…

Ukrainian troops were seen pushing 6 miles into Russian territory, and the Kremlin can’t decide if it’s a ‘large-scale provocation’ or ‘under control’

Ukraine launched a rare assault into Russian territory this week, pushing into the Kursk oblast with infantry and armored vehicles on Tuesday. The Russian region's acting governor, Alexey Smirnov, announced a state of emergency on Wednesday in response to the incursion.Ukraine has announced nothing officially about the attack, which Russian officials said involved 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers. The Russian Ministry of Defense said that Ukraine had also sent 11 tanks and dozens of armored vehicles. The exact scale of the resources committed by Ukraine to this attack is still unclear. However, Kyiv appears to be pushing hard into Kursk in the last two days.…

FastEdit: Fast Text-Guided Single-Image Editing via Semantic-Aware Diffusion Fine-Tuning

arXiv:2408.03355v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Conventional Text-guided single-image editing approaches require a two-step process, including fine-tuning the target text embedding for over 1K iterations and the generative model for another 1.5K iterations. Although it ensures that the resulting image closely aligns with both the input image and the target text, this process often requires 7 minutes per image, posing a challenge for practical application due to its time-intensive nature. To address this bottleneck, we introduce FastEdit, a fast text-guided single-image editing method with semantic-aware diffusion fine-tuning, dramatically accelerating the editing process to only 17 seconds. FastEdit streamlines the generative model's…

Deutsche Telekom Improves Profitability Buoyed by US Growth

Deutsche Telekom AG, Europe’s largest telecommunications operator, reported increased profitability in the second quarter, buoyed by strong subscriber growth in the US and resilience in its home market of Germany. Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization after leases rose 7.8% from a year earlier to €10.8 billion ($11.8 billion) in the second quarter, the carrier said in a statement on Thursday. Analysts had forecast €10.7 billion, according the average of estimates compiled by Bloomberg. Source link lol
