The best gaming handhelds for 2024

Handheld gaming systems are having a moment. While gaming on the go has been a thing since the Game Boy, the success of the Nintendo Switch and a string of ever-improving processors have brought an eruption of devices that let you play all sorts of games anywhere you want. Because new models seem to arrive every week, however, figuring out the best gaming handheld for you can be complicated. You already know that the Switch is great, but depending on what else you want to play, the right handheld could range from a $100 emulation machine to a $700 portable…

Binocular Model: A deep learning solution for online melt pool temperature analysis using dual-wavelength Imaging Pyrometry

Binocular Model: A deep learning solution for online melt pool temperature analysis using dual-wavelength Imaging Pyrometry

arXiv:2408.11126v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: In metal Additive Manufacturing (AM), monitoring the temperature of the Melt Pool (MP) is crucial for ensuring part quality, process stability, defect prevention, and overall process optimization. Traditional methods, are slow to converge and require extensive manual effort to translate data into actionable insights, rendering them impractical for real-time monitoring and control. To address this challenge, we propose an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based solution aimed at reducing manual data processing reliance and improving the efficiency of transitioning from data to insight. In our study, we utilize a dataset comprising dual-wavelength real-time process monitoring data and corresponding…

Microsoft may finally be removing the Windows Control Panel – gHacks Tech News

Control Panel may finally be removed from Windows 11, soon. Here we go again, Microsoft has been migrating the Control Panel for nearly a decade now. As Neowin reports, an update to a document on Microsoft's support portal, filed under the System Configuration tools states that "The Control Panel is in the process of being deprecated in favor of the Settings app, which offers a more modern and streamlined experience." It also goes on to explain why the legacy app has not been removed so far. "While the Control Panel still exists for compatibility reasons and to provide access to…

Sabrina Carpenter says she thought her mom’s advice to touch grass was ‘stupid’ — until she tried

Sabrina Carpenter's mom has some advice for her when she's stressed out: touch grass. And no, she doesn't mean the Gen Z slang for people who spend too much time online.Speaking with Apple Music's Zane Lowe to discuss her latest album, "Short n' Sweet," which drops today, the 25-year-old pop star said she wanted to give her mom a "shout out.""A couple of weeks ago, it was a lot for me, and I wasn't doing too great. And my mom was like, 'You need to go outside, and I want you to put your feet on the grass and the dirt,'"…

The Mechanics of Conceptual Interpretation in GPT Models: Interpretative Insights

arXiv:2408.11827v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Locating and editing knowledge in large language models (LLMs) is crucial for enhancing their accuracy, safety, and inference rationale. We introduce ``concept editing'', an innovative variation of knowledge editing that uncovers conceptualisation mechanisms within these models. Using the reverse dictionary task, inference tracing, and input abstraction, we analyse the Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP), Multi-Head Attention (MHA), and hidden state components of transformer models. Our results reveal distinct patterns: MLP layers employ key-value retrieval mechanism and context-dependent processing, which are highly associated with relative input tokens. MHA layers demonstrate a distributed nature with significant higher-level activations, suggesting…
