A Southwest Airlines plane was struck by gunfire Friday night while on the tarmac at Dallas Love Field Airport, a Southwest spokesperson confirmed to Business Insider.

“Southwest Airlines Flight 2494 taxied safely back to the terminal at Dallas Love Field after a bullet apparently struck the right side of the aircraft just under the flight deck while the Crew was preparing for departure for Indianapolis,” the spokesperson said.

No injuries were reported and the plane was removed from service, they said, adding that passengers would be accommodated on another flight.

The Federal Aviation Administration told BI in a statement that the plane “was reportedly struck by gunfire near the cockpit around 8:30 p.m. local time.”

In a statement posted on X, Dallas Love Field Airport said local police had responded to the incident.

One runway was briefly closed but has since reopened, the airport said, adding that there was “minimal impact on airport operations.”

It directed further inquiries to the Dallas police.

Business Insider contacted the Dallas Police Department for comment.
