  • Meta reorganized some of its major units, cutting roles at Instagram, Reality Labs, and WhatsApp.
  • A Meta spokesperson said the company was also moving some teams to different locations.
  • Meta has laid off thousands of workers as part of CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s push for efficiency.

Meta said Wednesday it reorganized some of its biggest businesses in a move that eliminated some roles at units including Instagram, Reality Labs, and WhatsApp.

It’s unclear how many roles were impacted.

A spokesperson said in a statement that Meta was looking for jobs for staff whose roles were eliminated.

“Today, a few teams at Meta are making changes to ensure resources are aligned with their long-term strategic goals and location strategy,” the spokesperson said. “This includes moving some teams to different locations, and moving some employees to different roles.”

Jane Manchun Wong, a former Meta employee, said in a social-media post earlier on Wednesday that her role had been impacted. According to her LinkedIn, Wong was a security engineer at the company.

“Still trying to process this but my role at Meta has been impacted. Thank you to everyone for my wild journey at Meta,” she said.

Wong did not reply to a request for comment from BI.

Meta has gone through several rounds of layoffs in recent years. CEO Mark Zuckerberg previously said that the company’s push for “efficiency” would be permanent.

As of March, Meta had cut 22% of its workforce since the company’s first mass layoff at the end of 2022, BI previously reported.

The company’s ranks swelled in recent years, from about 45,000 at the end of 2019 to about 70,000 as of June 30, according to filings.
