With data as the new currency, the key to unlocking its full potential lies in strategic data management and innovative applications.
Through its Intelligent Data Management Cloud, Informatica Inc. simplifies that process by orchestrating data from various sources, integrating it into its data lake and ensuring high-quality data through its data quality module.
“Essentially the pharmaceutical industry today is undergoing a massive shift, largely driven by three key optics,” said Anish Agarwal (pictured, left), global head of data and analytics at Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd. “The first is the evolving regulatory requirements. The second is evolving patient requirements. And the third is a digital therapeutic side.”
Agarwal and Joseph Sullivan (right), director of solutions sales, Asia Pacific & Japan, at Informatica, spoke with theCUBE Research’s Rebecca Knight and Rob Strechay at Informatica World, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed the transformative power of data management in the pharmaceutical industry, with Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories as a case study. (* Disclosure below.)
Data management: Governance and quality as a strategic backbone
Alongside enforced regulatory compliance and personalized medicine, the rise of wearable technology provides an unprecedented volume of data on individual health metrics, enabling fully digital therapeutics.
“Data strategy apparently is also a constituent of data governance, and this is where Informatica has played a pivotal role for us to really mobilize the data governance agenda,” Agarwal said. “Essentially it is about data quality, it is about data access and it is about data security.”
All of these factors must be underpinned by well-governed, trusted data. The cultural shift towards data accountability at Dr. Reddy’s addressed chronic data issues identified by data stewards. By solving day-to-day problems and integrating data stewardship into performance goals, the company has fostered a culture where data quality and governance are joint responsibilities of the data and business teams, Sullivan added.
“They’re our largest customer of the IDMC cloud, and some of the ways they’re using it is really innovative,” he said. “I’ve loved talking to Anish over the last few days, learning about how they have built it really into the data culture and how they’re KPI’ing a lot of their data stewards and I think it’s a great lesson for others to learn.”
