Former President Jimmy Carter’s 100th birthday is on October 1, and the ex-commander-in-chief is excited to reach the huge milestone.
The 39th president is also eager about potentially reaching his birthday because it would likely mean a chance to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Former Georgia state Sen. Jason Carter, the president’s grandson, informed the newspaper that his grandfather told presidential son Chip Carter that he was “only trying to make it to vote for Kamala Harris.”
Jason Carter also told the Journal-Constitution that the former Democratic president has recently been “more alert and interested in politics and the war in Gaza.”
Jimmy Carter, who served as Georgia’s governor from 1971 to 1975 and as president of the United States from 1977 to 1981, began hospice care in February 2023. Last November, former first lady Rosalynn Carter — to whom the former president had been married for 77 years — died at age 96 in the couple’s hometown of Plains.
The former president after leaving the White House became revered for his international humanitarian work.
Harris is set to be a familiar presence in Georgia in the months ahead as Democrats aim to hold the swing state after President Joe Biden narrowly won it in 2020. She held a large rally in Atlanta on Tuesday, and she’s scheduled to arrive back in the state next week at a rally in Savannah alongside her soon-to-be named running mate.
