In an interview with E! News, the “Deadpool” actor spoke about his desire to expand his family.
“The more the merrier,” Reynolds said. “As many as possible. As many little heartbeats as possible, just running around, wrecking stuff in the house. I love it. Let’s have more!”
Reynolds and Lively married in 2012 and have four children: James, 9; Inez, 7; Betty, 4; and a one-year-old they have yet to reveal the name of. Although they’ve been spotted in public with their kids, the couple prefers to keep their family out of the spotlight.
Despite their busy schedules, the couple stays committed to spending time with their kids.
In February, Lively revealed that she and Reynolds agreed “not to work at the same time” when they started dating so they could always prioritize their personal lives.
And they aren’t the only high-profile individuals with a big family.
There’s Gordon Ramsay, who has six kids with his wife, and Alec Baldwin and Hillaria Baldwin, who have seven kids together. Kris Jenner, the matriarch of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, has six children, and Robert De Niro became a dad to his seventh child last year.
However, Hollywood families seem to be an exception since fertility rates worldwide have fallen over the last 50 years.
In 1952, the average global family had five children. Now, they have less than three, per the World Economic Forum.
Part of the reason for the decline is that raising children is becoming more expensive: According to Business Insider’s estimates, it will cost about $25,714 to care for a small child in 2024.
More and more women also say they don’t want children because they’ve found fulfillment in other pursuits, like careers or travel.
Some Gen-Zers don’t see the point of having children either because of the economy and the climate crisis.
However, the shrinking birthrate in the US could become a huge problem for the economy as it could drag GDP down by 1-2 percentage points each year, Todd Buchholz, a former White House economist, told BI previously.
Such fears have fueled the pronatalist movement, which has gained traction in wealthy tech and venture-capitalist circles.
Many pronatalists fear that falling birth rates will ultimately lead to the collapse of civilization, and they believe it’s their responsibility to have lots of children to counteract these effects.
Elon Musk — who has 10 known children with three different mothers — is the most famous figure currently associated with this movement.
A representative for Reynolds did not immediately respond to a request for comment sent outside regular business hours.
