Meta and Google researchers’ new data curation method could transform self-supervised learning

Time's almost up! There's only one week left to request an invite to The AI Impact Tour on June 5th. Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity to explore various methods for auditing AI models. Find out how you can attend here. As AI researchers and companies race to train bigger and better machine learning models, curating suitable datasets is becoming a growing challenge. To solve this problem, researchers from Meta AI, Google, INRIA, and Université Paris Saclay have introduced a new technique for automatically curating high-quality datasets for self-supervised learning (SSL).  Their method uses embedding models and clustering algorithms…

GPT-4 Cheat Sheet: What is GPT-4 & What is it Capable Of?

GPT-4 Cheat Sheet: What is GPT-4 & What is it Capable Of?

GPT-4 is an artificial intelligence large language model system that can mimic human-like speech and reasoning. It does so by training on a vast library of existing human communication, from classic works of literature to large swaths of the internet. Artificial intelligence of this type builds on its training to predict what letter, number or other character is likely to come in sequence. This cheat sheet explores GPT-4 from a high level: how to access GPT-4 for either consumer or business use, who made it and how it works. What is GPT-4? GPT-4 is a large multimodal model that can…

Delta Sharing and The Emergence of the Lakehouse Customer Data Platform (CDP)

Delta Sharing and The Emergence of the Lakehouse Customer Data Platform (CDP)

Special thanks to Caleb Benningfield and Sam Malissa at Amperity for their valuable insights and contributions to this blog. Today, businesses face a significant challenge in handling a greater volume and complexity of customer data to power personalization at scale while also staying compliant with privacy regulations. This means prioritizing data quality and implementing an effective governance layer, but existing tools and methods that businesses used to rely on aren't up to the challenge. To address this challenge, many businesses have transitioned from cloud data warehouses and data lakes to a data lakehouse architecture. The data lakehouse combines the best of what…

Unleashing the power of Multiple Update Graphs in Deephaven | Deephaven

Unleashing the power of Multiple Update Graphs in Deephaven | Deephaven

As data science and software development continue to evolve, the necessity for tools that can handle complex, real-time operations becomes ever more important. In this context, we are thrilled to announce a significant enhancement to Deephaven - the ability to utilize multiple update graphs simultaneously. For the uninitiated, Deephaven is an open-source platform for real-time computation on large amounts of data. Update graphs form a critical part of Deephaven's architecture, managing tables and operations on them in real-time.A single update graph can handle a wide variety of use cases. However, it does impose limitations for problems where complex solutions are necessary…

AI saving humans from the emotional toll of monitoring hate speech

AI saving humans from the emotional toll of monitoring hate speech

A team of researchers at the University of Waterloo have developed a new machine-learning method that detects hate speech on social media platforms with 88 per cent accuracy, saving employees from hundreds of hours of emotionally damaging work. The method, dubbed the Multi-Modal Discussion Transformer (mDT), can understand the relationship between text and images as well as put comments in greater context, unlike previous hate speech detection methods. This is particularly helpful in reducing false positives, which are often incorrectly flagged as hate speech due to culturally sensitive language. "We really hope this technology can help reduce the emotional cost…

U.K. Election Delays Chip Policies, Industry Innovation Endures – EE Times

//php echo do_shortcode('[responsivevoice_button voice="US English Male" buttontext="Listen to Post"]') ?> Last week, key senior executives from the U.K.’s semiconductor industry all gathered at 10 Downing Street in London—the home of the country’s Prime Minister—to gain support for the launch of an independent semiconductor institute. Plenty of photos of the executives in front of the world-famous front door were posted all over social media. Then, just two days later outside the same door, the Prime Minister announced a general election for July 4, 2024. As a result, the Prime Minister spearheading that support is now no longer in office as parliament…

Conformal Recursive Feature Elimination

Conformal Recursive Feature Elimination

arXiv:2405.19429v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Unlike traditional statistical methods, Conformal Prediction (CP) allows for the determination of valid and accurate confidence levels associated with individual predictions based only on exchangeability of the data. We here introduce a new feature selection method that takes advantage of the CP framework. Our proposal, named Conformal Recursive Feature Elimination (CRFE), identifies and recursively removes features that increase the non-conformity of a dataset. We also present an automatic stopping criterion for CRFE, as well as a new index to measure consistency between subsets of features. CRFE selections are compared to the classical Recursive Feature Elimination…

ElevenLabs moves beyond speech with AI-generated Sound Effects

Time's almost up! There's only one week left to request an invite to The AI Impact Tour on June 5th. Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity to explore various methods for auditing AI models. Find out how you can attend here. After launching tools for text-to-speech and speech-to-speech synthesis, AI voice startup ElevenLabs is moving to the next target. The two-year-old startup founded by former Google and Palantir employees today announced the launch of a new text-to-sound AI offering called Sound Effects. Available starting today on the ElevenLabs website, Sound Effects uses the startup’s in-house foundation model and allows…

A Full-duplex Speech Dialogue Scheme Based On Large Language Models

A Full-duplex Speech Dialogue Scheme Based On Large Language Models

arXiv:2405.19487v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: We present a generative dialogue system capable of operating in a full-duplex manner, allowing for seamless interaction. It is based on a large language model (LLM) carefully aligned to be aware of a perception module, a motor function module, and the concept of a simple finite state machine (called neural FSM) with two states. The perception and motor function modules operate simultaneously, allowing the system to simultaneously speak and listen to the user. The LLM generates textual tokens for inquiry responses and makes autonomous decisions to start responding to, wait for, or interrupt the user…
