FBI says Iranian hackers are targeting both presidential campaigns

FBI says Iranian hackers are targeting both presidential campaigns

A phishing campaign that the FBI believes is linked to Iran has been targeting members of the Trump and Harris camps as they seek to be elected as the president of the United States later this year. While the bad actors have reportedly been trying to spear-phish several advisers of the Biden-Harris and Trump campaigns, The Washington Post specifically named senior Trump adviser Susie Wiles as one of the targets. In June, federal agents worked with Microsoft and Google when it started investigating the spear phishing emails the presidential candidates' staff had received. Google recently latter published a report detailing how…

A Deep Features-Based Approach Using Modified ResNet50 and Gradient Boosting for Visual Sentiments Classification

A Deep Features-Based Approach Using Modified ResNet50 and Gradient Boosting for Visual Sentiments Classification

arXiv:2408.07922v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: The versatile nature of Visual Sentiment Analysis (VSA) is one reason for its rising profile. It isn't easy to efficiently manage social media data with visual information since previous research has concentrated on Sentiment Analysis (SA) of single modalities, like textual. In addition, most visual sentiment studies need to adequately classify sentiment because they are mainly focused on simply merging modal attributes without investigating their intricate relationships. This prompted the suggestion of developing a fusion of deep learning and machine learning algorithms. In this research, a deep feature-based method for multiclass classification has been used…

ArabLegalEval: A Multitask Benchmark for Assessing Arabic Legal Knowledge in Large Language Models

ArabLegalEval: A Multitask Benchmark for Assessing Arabic Legal Knowledge in Large Language Models

arXiv:2408.07983v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: The rapid advancements in Large Language Models (LLMs) have led to significant improvements in various natural language processing tasks. However, the evaluation of LLMs' legal knowledge, particularly in non-English languages such as Arabic, remains under-explored. To address this gap, we introduce ArabLegalEval, a multitask benchmark dataset for assessing the Arabic legal knowledge of LLMs. Inspired by the MMLU and LegalBench datasets, ArabLegalEval consists of multiple tasks sourced from Saudi legal documents and synthesized questions. In this work, we aim to analyze the capabilities required to solve legal problems in Arabic and benchmark the performance of…

NIST’s New Post-Quantum Cryptography Standards Announced

NIST’s New Post-Quantum Cryptography Standards Announced

The U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology this week unveiled three encryption algorithms designed to resist cyberattacks, which industry observers said are a positive step toward preventing cyberattacks that break current encryption methods. The Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 203, 204, and 205 provide standards for general encryption and protecting digital signatures. They were derived from multiple submissions in NIST’s post-quantum cryptography standardization project. Quantum computers are rapidly increasing the ability for high-performance computing, and the new standards are ready for immediate use, NIST said. “Quantum computing technology could become a force for solving many of society’s most intractable…

Oregon residents will vote in November on a $1,600 annual universal basic income

Democrats and Republicans alike are fighting a ballot measure in Oregon that would increase corporate taxes to give residents an annual rebate. The proposal, known as Ballot Measure 118 or the Oregon Rebate, would add a 3% tax on corporations in the state once they make $25 million a year. The plan was originally known as Initiative 17. The money would be distributed among state residents, including children, as a $1,600 annual rebate.Despite the opposition from lawmakers, it's not up to them. Ballot measures give residents a chance to vote directly on an issue. Oregonians themselves will be able to vote…

Building a robust data stewardship tool in life sciences

This blog was written in collaboration with Gordon Strodel, Director, Data Strategy & Analytics Capability, in addition to Abhinav Batra, Associate Principal, Enterprise Data Management Practice Lead, Nitin Jindal, Enterprise Architect, and Abhimanyu Jain, Business Technology Solutions Manager at ZSData stewardship: a key component of an organization's data strategyMaster data management (MDM) systems have long stood as an essential pillar within any well-structured organization. Over time, the advancements in MDM frameworks have greatly amplified their ability to automate, standardize and cleanse an organization's customer data. Despite these enhancements, there remains a persistent challenge: the unsolved edge cases that require the…

How to Train a Continual Learning Model

How to Train a Continual Learning Model

Photo by Google DeepMind / UnsplashConsider a self-driving automobile that drives itself through the city but has trouble in a construction zone. Or think about a medical diagnosis system that does a great job of detecting well-known diseases but misses a novel variation. These situations draw attention to a crucial problem in artificial intelligence: machine learning models' capacity to adjust to new data without losing track of what they have already learned. The conventional ML models learn comprehensive distribution and patterns from the training data and use them to generate and classify new data points. However, if new data is fed…

A former airport in Canada is being transformed into a $22B development with 7 unique neighborhoods

An old airport in Toronto is being transformed into a new development for almost 55,000 residents. The former Downsview Airport will be refurbished into seven walkable neighborhoods with housing, businesses, and public parks.A spokesperson for the developer told Business Insider that the project is expected to cost around $30 billion Canadian dollars, or around $22 billion.Downsview Airport was first used as an air base for the Royal Canadian Air Force in World War II and was most recently a testing facility for the aircraft manufacturer Bombardier, The Wall Street Journal reported. The proposed "city within a city" will have green spaces…
